I love to inspire creativity and push for success!

I have taught English/Language Arts for 3 years to 6-8 grade students, and I have worked as a tutor in various capacities for the past 7 years. This past summer I opened my own business: a program dedicated to teaching the craft of creative writing to kids. Currently, I am back in school at University of Dayton's online graduate program, with a goal of obtaining my Master's of Literacy.
I love to incorporate creative and outside-the-box approaches in my teaching methods. I genuinely believe that often, to get students to understand material, they need to be interested in the concepts and I try to keep that in mind during my preparation. I also believe it is important to help students learn to become critical thinkers and independent learners, and therefore, I try to push them to achieve success beyond what they believe they are capable of achieving.

I have worked with students for 3 years, so it's interesting to see how they learn differently. I believe that learning is unique, so being creative in making memory stay is a positive with me. Encouraging students that doing their best and they will learn is a positive reinforcement that someone does care outside of school and home.

A Little Bit About Me...

I attended The Ohio State University and got my Bachelors degree in Human Development and Family Sciences with a concentration in Early Childhood Development. After that I continued my education at Capital University to obtain my teaching license for PK-3 regular classroom education, as well as Intervention Specalist K-12 and a Reading Endorsment K-12.
I believe that every child should be given an equal chance to learn. If that means teaching a lesson three different ways to be sure to reach all my students, sometimes that is what it takes. Being flexible is very important in teaching, as it is important to be able to adapt to each student and each class, year to year. A child needs to have fun throughout the learning process. He learns best when he is excited and interested. He needs to be able to choose his own books to read. This usually entails a trip to the library. And from there, we start with shared readings, repeated readings, running records, echo readings and choral readings, just to name a few.
