Although I have no formal teaching experience, I do have been developing my teaching style for many years while I worked with the developmentally disabled. I learned to identify a teachable moment, which is a time at which the student would be most receptive to learning. As a tutor, I would create those moments and boost confidence by encouraging the student to explore the subject in the way that is most interesting to them. When a child or student asks a question, I will guide them through a thought process so they can come up with the answer themselves.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with a minor in journalism from Oswego State University. Before I was able to tutor, I taught 7 year old girls cheerleading. When I began to tutor, I enjoyed being one on one with the child. I am very patient, punctual and considerate. I know children that need extra help need extra time. I find it personally rewarding to supplament a child's education. I also believe it is easier for a child to ask questions when they are one on one with an educator.
Beginning in high school I found myself driven to help children in need. Through my participation in Mercy Action, I raised money for mentally delayed children, and set up numerous barbeques for them. Later, I began tutoring a young brazilian boy in the 5th grade. He needed help with all of his studies, especially math and english. As a political science major, I have gained experienced in essay writing, grammatical skills and research methods.

A Little Bit About Me...

When helping others, I do it two ways. I tell them how to do it and guide them through it. Other times, I show them how to do it. However, I do not do it for them. I would love to have the chance to help children succeed in their education! It would be an honor!
I graduated high school in 2000 with a local diploma and then went on to college at Utica School of Commerce. I graduated in 2002 with an Associated Degree as an Administrative Specialist. I have worked at a few different jobs and just went back to college again at Utica School of Commerce and got my certificate degree as a Medical Office Assistant.

I am a professional singer, actress and dancer who has taught throughout my 15 year career. I truly love teaching, especially in a one-on-one or very small group setting. Currently I teach private lessons in: piano, voice and acting. I also teach small-group: Piano, Acting, Choir, Learn to Read Music, Creative Movement, Pilates, Boot Camp, Kick Boxing. I also work with the local home school community as a 'tutor' for math and English.
I believe in mentoring. It does take a few times for the student (young and old) to understand that I cannot teach them anything. I can present information to them and attempt to inspire them to learn, but they are the ones who ultimately teach themselves. A Little Bit About Me...

I love to educate children of many ages I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old in the house. You teach many different aspects of life, not just academically. Being a tutor for grades 6-8 was different because they had the basics. They needed to be informed and focused. Substitute teaching grades K-8 was rather different because the children acted as though they haven't learned anything, so you had to make them feel comfortable. I love teaching with repetition and visual. With patience, understanding, and love a child can learn anything.
