I graduated Cum Laude from Manhattan College with a double major in Psychology and Communications. In addition to studying for two majors, I was also a Division 1 athlete and held 2 jobs. Seeing as I was very busy with extracirricular activities, I believe that my graduating with honors was truly a testament to how hard I worked. Since college, I have worked in two jobs that have really tested my gramatical, reading, editing and speaking skills. Students learn skills by using them in a realistic, subject-specific context, and in a combined way. So they might use other skills taught before such as note taking, highlighting, all in context. The purpose of the skills are stressed, students are taught not just what to do and how, but also why. I received a technology degree in 1975. Several years later I returned to college to persue a Physics/Mechanical Engineering Degree from SUNY New Paltz and RPI. I was an "A" student in Physics and enjoyed tutoring many classmates. I was a guest lecturer several times at RPI. Due to work and family commitments I did not complete the degree. Growing up I dealt with dyslexia. I understand that each and every kid has a different learning style and not one style is better then the rest.
