My comments on tutoring Literature : As an English major, my college experience exposed me to a vast collections of literary styles, eras, and authors. My love and knowledge of literature, both classic and modern, had only increased post-graduation, as I often scour bookstores for good book deals and poetry anthologies.

My approach is patient, and I delight in allowing students to make discoveries with purposeful guidance. A Little Bit About Me...

The method of teaching I prefer is maieutic, i.e., one which draws knowledge from the student, rather than attempts to place it in him/her from without. To me, the process of asking questions and allowing the student's curiosity and intelligence to reach conclusions is far more effective than one-sided lecturing. I am endlessly creative, coming up with myriad examples to illustrate concepts.

If students can understand language and grammar in their own context and how it is useful then it will be better and easier to incorporate into their own writing and reading and therefore more natural.
