I started teaching Sunday School when I was in Junior High. I taught a little boy in my class how to read and it was the most rewarding experience I have ever encountered. As aforementioned, throughout high school, I began tutoring students in Math, English, Spanish, Science, and History. I tutored one 6th grade student who was ADHD. He had several tutors before me, but none had the patience to work with him. I started tutoring him and fell in love with this particular child. It was hard at first because everything distracted him, but I tried different approaches until he finally began to understand the material. I created a safe environment, which is the framework for teaching. I respected this student, and in return, he respected me. I love teaching and working with all children. I believe every student needs to learn something through their individual academic advantages or skills. Each student learns things different ways, and it is my job as a teacher to use all of the different avenues in my instruction so that I can target each student's indiviual learning abilities. I am a firm believer in teaching through discovery and in providing a constructivist approach to learning. I believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings and learning experiences. A few good educators can make a world of difference in a child's education.
