A Little Bit About Me...

I have found that the best way to teach students is to have them do, not listen. Most students at any level are very unmotivated to learn if someone is lecturing at them or working at a pace that is above what they are able to accomplish. I tailor my lessons to the students needs and provide ample opportunities for practice, revision, and remediation when necessary. I want each student to feel a sense of accomplishment every day and I strive to help each child with whatever it is they may need.
I have been a teacher in the Hoke County school district for 3 years now. I taught 5th grade for one year, then moved to second grade for the past two years. I earned two bachelor degrees from the University of North Carolina in December of 2007. From there, I chose to move to Massachusetts to participate in a ground breaking fellowship at MATCH Charter Public High School. I chose this alternate route to receiving teaching certification because of the classroom experience it provided me. In addition to earning certification and completing student teaching hours, I tutored for 20-30 hours a week in all subject areas in grades 9, 10, and 11. My favorite subjects to tutor are reading, writing, history, and biology.
