I use various teaching styles within my classroom. I try to find how my student learns best and accommodate to their needs. All students learn differently, so I try to be flexible in my teaching style. I do like to make teaching as visual and hands on as I can.
I have been a teacher with CPS for four years. I am currently a Special Education teacher for grades K-5. I teach a caseload of 33 students ranging in abilities. I have a significant amount of experience teaching reading, math, and writing to struggling learners. In addition to working with students that have disabilities, I also have a degree in Elementary Education. I teach regular education students within my intervention groups throughout my school day. My teaching style is about positive feedback and patience. With my experience in psychology I have found that a calm nurturing environment lends itself to bolstering understanding for children. I teach to the student. I find exactly what their strengths are and incorporate it in some way to learn something new. Education is a set of building blocks and can only be as strong as the foundation.
I graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. I spent a year as a Substitute Teacher in Lincoln, NE. I then took a year and a half break from teaching to recruit for a small college. I went back into teaching as a grade 7-12 mathematics teacher. I was responsible for the 7th grade through pre-calculus courses at Wheatland Public Schools in Madrid Nebraska. This school was then combined into Grant Public Schools. I am also a strong technical trainer in my current role and provide necessary computer and analytical training to all new associates at the current company I work for.
