Changing The World, One Child AT A Time

I was an assistant teacher to a 3rd grade class at Wilson's Mills Elementary from 2001 until 2003. My duties included assisted the teacher and helping the students in a manner to help them learn at their pace. And I also have an 8 year old son who attends River Dell Elementary. I help him on a daily basis with his homework, which includes math, reading and writing. I love kids and it brings great joy to my life to see the smile on their faces when they learn something new, or figure out the answer to a problem they are working on.

I am currently a high school junior. That being said, I do not have a degree. However, I am in the top 20% of my high school class, I take only honors classes, and actually learn the material so I can tutor a student who needs help. I would love to help any child or student who is wanting to excel in their studies. (:
I would describe my teaching style as friendly. I try not to give off so much of teacher-student type atmosphere, because many children get discouraged and are not as comfortable and not as willing to learn.

After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill's School of Journalism, I was a staff reporter at a daily newspaper in High Point, NC, where I covered Guilford County's public school system and wrote feature stories. During that time, I volunteered as a tutor to a first-grade student who needed help with reading and writing. I moved to the Raleigh area and took a job with the American Kennel Club, where I supervised the staff of a call center and provided service to Spanish-speaking customers. I enjoy working with all levels of learners. While in college I tutored a high school student who was hearing impaired. Although it was challenging, I found his progress to be rewarding in the end.
