A Little Bit About Me...

After graduating from Vanguard University of Southern California with my BA in English, I decided to enroll in the Education Program to receive my Single Subject English Teaching Credential. Teaching has always been a passion of mine. I started tutoring students in subjects such as Math, English, Science, History, and Spanish, when I was merely a Junior in High School. I began tutoring K-8 at a local private elementary school. I then became employed at my high school as a tutor. At my high school, I was given the opportunity to work with grades 9-12. I worked in an after school program for three years where I was able to plan lessons and help students with their homework. I have recently student taught at Costa Mesa High School as a 9th Grade Honors English teacher and a 12th Grade Regular English teacher.

As an individual who has earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing , I recently enrolled to earn my Credential and Masters in Special Education. Because of my educational background, I greatly recognize the value of receiving an education. I possess an understanding in a variety of subject content areas. Over the past year and a half, I have had the opportunity of tutoring students in English, reading, science and various business related classes with ages ranging from 8 – 22.

The Florida Writing Assessment was implemented in grades 4, 8, and 10 as required by a law passed by the 1990 legislature. Does your student need a tutor? Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible. Additionally, beginning in 2010, each student within the same grade level was required to write an essay using the same mode of writing (narrative, expository, or persuasive).
