A Little Bit About Me...

I've gained experience with teaching in an array of ways. Firstly, I'm a recent graduate from BYU-Idaho in Piano Performance earning my Bachelor of Musical Arts. Throughout my training as a professional pianist I studied piano pedagogy and now have a functioning piano studio of my own. In addition, I was a music tutor and teachers assistant helping my fellow students grasp music theory concepts. Furthermore, I worked as a youth counselor at a summer camp called Outdoor Youth Activities (OYA) where we specialized in working with young teens. Here I had a chance to guide and counsel with teens in large groups and also a one on one personal basis.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always had a strong desire to learn and share with others the knowledge that I have. I enjoy being around people, especially ones that are eager to learn. With my experience of working with people with learning disabilities, I have learned to become very patient and understanding of other peoples learning needs. I have also learned how to provide an environment that best fits the student’s needs. I feel that the best way for people to learn is through doing things on their own. I am really good with kids. What I excel at is relating info. I can tell when someone is struggling, and usually know how to rectify the situation. I really enjoyed when I was able to tutor in elementary. The kids that I worked with had real problems in Math. With all of the kids that I taught they learned quick, just not the way teachers taught. I had to come up with different methods to relate the subject to them.
In Elementary I tutored for about a year. I also worked at a youth camp for kids with add adhd drug issues and anger problems. I have my A.S. in business and am very good with Math. I have also helped my little siblings with homework.

I believe in the Socratic Method. Through this tutoring method, the student is asked questions to help them develop understanding on their own. Through this discovery style, the students actually learn in ways that will be remembered most. I believe that any child, teenager, or adult can learn most effectively through their own discovery, with my help and guidance. I believe in having "ah-ha!" moments, and the feeling of relief and excitement when connections are made, and learning happens. That's what I want for my students.
