During my undergraduate education I was very dedicated in pursuing my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and completed a variety of experiences working with students. Last fall I worked as a student teacher in third grade. The 17 students in my class had a variety of socio-economic backgrounds, special needs, and multicultural differences which presented many unique challenges. After graduation I was asked to stay on at the school to work as a Positive Action Center (PAC) Facilitator. In this role I was able to work with students kindergarten through sixth grade on their various behavioral issues. My experience as a teacher has been gained through my work at Easter Seals, a pediatric physical therapy center, for which I have taught many children skills in life, communicating, and other various skills. I graduated from the University of Iowa on May 15, 2010 with a BA in Elementary Education and a reading endorsement. Apart from my area of specialization, reading, I also took seven science courses at the University of Iowa, mainly in chemistry. My volunteer experiences have shaped the person who I am today, as I have completed over one hundred hours of volunteer work in schools and hospitals. I'm a student at Augustana College whose academic record has ranged from public school to home schooling to community college and and even private education. I've worked as a tutor for over 2 years at Black Hawk College, at the same time obtaining an Associates Degree. Throughout those years I've encountered many special needs students and many bright students, tutoring in subjects ranging from English, Math, Social Studies, to Computer Science. I believe the best way to learn is peer-to-peer learning. As an auto-didact I have the study skills necessary to regurgitate information as taught by the current institutional models. This is an uncreative and highly unnatural way to learn. There's a reason no major discovery was made in a classroom -- true innovation, discovery and learning is an organic process.
