A Little Bit About Me...

I have been tutoring for the past 10 years before and after school both privately and group settings. I am a public school teacher now and would like to tutor after school for the 2013-2014 school year. I usually get a student in first grade and the student keeps working with me until third or fourth grade. I use a hands on approach and am especially good with LD and Add students. I am very familiar with the SOLs for the elementary student.

I have a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering and was a software engineer for over 25 years. In 2003, I was certified for Middle School Mathematics in Massachusetts. I have enjoyed being a substitute teacher over 200 days in various Middle and High Schools. I have worked for 20 years in the Awana, youth organization, teaching children from ages 3 through High School. For just over a decade I have been involved in some form of peer education or mentoring. As a senior in high school, I tutored students in mathematics and science. As an ACS Certified Chemist, I have been exposed to upper level mathematics, chemistry and physics, but am still required to use writings skills in preparing various reports and papers. A Little Bit About Me...

After watching a documentary on teachers teaching in the inner city, I decided to switch my major from Pre-Law to Elementary Education. I've always loved learning and I wanted to be able to convey that same message to my students. In college, I majored in Elementary Education with a minor in Psy. of the Exceptional Child. This minor allowed me to study children who are gifted and children with special needs. I am currently working on a Masters in Special Education because I've learned an extensive amount of knowledge on this subject working for the Early Intervention program in my area.
I've always believed that children learn by doing.
