A Little Bit About Me...

While holding certification in three varied subjects, I feel that my strengths lie in teaching transferability of acquired skills. Having a bachelor degree in an educational field, an MBA, and 8 years of various "real world" experience that includes both retail and project management gives me an advantage when teaching. While in college and afterwards, I built a studio of music students that placed in the top two seats in Florida All-State bands, various regional student orchestras, and All-County bands. Though I am teaching math now, I still strive to instill the same passion in my students to achieve.

I have recently learned to incorporate meaning-centered philosophy (Viktor Frankl) to my teaching with a Portfolio methodology. I use these methods with a dynamic demeanor and with positive re-inforcement remarks on their papers.I learned Portfolio method at the Junior College and have significant results with it. For me, there is no greater passion than to impart to students the desire to want to learn; particularly, when they do the research. I like to try and explain a concept to the student in different ways until that particular student feels at ease with the theory and idea behind the subject. I always want students to feel relaxed in a tutoring session. I adapt my teaching style to each student and encourage them to practice, explore, analyze, and learn from any mistakes. As a tutor, I will create an environment of comfort, and answer questions without causing any embarrassment. I want to restore a student's confidence in learning.
I've tutored at inner-city schools and in one-on-one environments. I have also tutored numerous Russian-speaking adults, children, refugees, and asylees in English through a non-profit organization. This assistace helped them become self sufficient and learn English and American culture. I thoroughly enjoyed that tutoring, and have since become a teacher.

The Florida Writing Assessment was implemented in grades 4, 8, and 10 as required by a law passed by the 1990 legislature. Does your student need a tutor? Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible. Additionally, beginning in 2010, each student within the same grade level was required to write an essay using the same mode of writing (narrative, expository, or persuasive).
