A Little Bit About Me...

While holding certification in three varied subjects, I feel that my strengths lie in teaching transferability of acquired skills. Having a bachelor degree in an educational field, an MBA, and 8 years of various "real world" experience that includes both retail and project management gives me an advantage when teaching. While in college and afterwards, I built a studio of music students that placed in the top two seats in Florida All-State bands, various regional student orchestras, and All-County bands. Though I am teaching math now, I still strive to instill the same passion in my students to achieve.

A Little Bit About Me...

I tutored English composition in the writing lab as work-study for St. Petersburg Junior College to assist financial aid for my Associates degree. I also tutored disabled students at the University of South Florida in writing skills. I held a composition writing component to the Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Program at the Training School Boys. I taught ESL for the Cape Verdean Community Development Center in Pawtucket. I also taught GED classes at the Woodlawn Community Center in Pawtucket.
I have recently learned to incorporate meaning-centered philosophy (Viktor Frankl) to my teaching with a Portfolio methodology. Each student has personal methods of learning that work best for them, and certain ways of doing things that do not work for them. I like to try and explain a concept to the student in different ways until that particular student feels at ease with the theory and idea behind the subject. Once the basic idea is well understood the reinforcement of the principle by means of problem solving can show the utility of the idea and how it may be used in real life.
As an engineer and attorney, I have tutored while a student in college and while mentoring technician candidates as they returned to school to obtain associate degrees in technical subjects.
