Although drill may be appropriate for some skills, my preference is project or problem based methods that draw on the learner's experiences and interests. I work from students' current skill levels, provide challenging problems, model successful learning skills, encourage students' to express creativity and intuition, and employ formative and normative assessments. I firmly believe that more advanced mathemtaics can be taught to younger and more diverse students. I believe that all students, of all skill levels, can learn mathemtaics if creatively taught.

I emphasize the learning of concepts and understanding to the extent that the student is able to teach them back to me as a validation to themselves that they have grasped the idea of the moment. Learning is progressive. Each student has his own point of understanding of a concept and all future concepts are built upon the previous one(s). Once the student understands that he knows more that he thought, the previously overwhelming challenge is disarmed by newfound confidence. He realizes he is in control and he begins to relax and the learning begins. I was at the ITT Nashville and Draughons College campuses for 9+ years and School Chair of the CAD/MM department at ITT for 3 of those years. I have taught multiple subjects during my tenure including almost all of the classes in GenEd and in math, physics, calculus.
