Graduated from the University of Missouri with a BA in education, certification in Social Studies, World History, and American History. Two years teaching English and developing teaching skills for teachers in Korea with the peace corps. Raised eleven children eight of whom have graduated or are now attending college. Currently doing research for Historical work that I am writing. Have spent numerous years substitute teaching. 25 years as a restaurant manager and owner with a hands on knowledge of skills needed for entering the workforce.

Having moved between English, History, and Anthropology during my undergraduate years, I've surveyed quite an extensive portion of the social sciences. I'm known for my patience working with students with foreign-language backgrounds and other disabilities such as a lack of attention and focus. I try to keep the material fresh and I avoid boredom and repetition at all costs. One of my best tools to connect with a young person is through humor. If the student feels relaxed they are more likely to absorb the information. I also use reverse psychology to turn the tables so they actually find themselves teaching me the material. This has been a successful tool with children I have mentored as well as my own children.
I began teaching/tutoring while in graduate school. I tutored undergrads in sociology, psychology, and social statistics. I also taught driver's education to high school students while in grad school. After ten years working in law enforcement, I switched to social services and I have been mentoring children in foster care for the past twenty years.
