My comments on tutoring World History : I'm an avid history buff.

Sept. 1987 to February 1988- Substitute teacher for San Diego Unified Schools. During this time I instructed all areas of curriculum in grades Kindergarten through Sixth Grade.I also worked in many GATE and Seminar classes during this period. May 1988 to January 1989- Tutor at Windsor Learning Center Inc. At Windsor I planned and executed learning programs for First through Sixth Grade students. A Little Bit About Me...

I finished my lower division coursework at a california community college (AHC) and earned a total of six associate degrees. While at the community college, I administered practice test for students in MESA in mathematics (Calculus 1,2,3, and 4) while also working the maximum of 20 hours a week in the campus math lab (walk-in tutoring). Furthermore, I attended and graduated from UCLA with a bachelor's degree in physics and a minor in mathematics and finished the necessary coursework to apply to all medical school programs in to the country. I retired last year (2008) after 30 years as a Public Servant (law enforcement) with the City of San Diego. I have also retired from the Naval Reserve as a Master-At-Arms Chief in 2006. I have taught, counseled and mentored individuals throughout my career. I initially studied Physics and Math at college level and changed major after employment with the city. All students have a variance in their learning style but I have found a cognitive apprenticeship/constructivist approach is a good style to start with. I show the student how to accomplish a task, then we accomplish a similar task together, and finally, the student shows me how to accomplish the task, with my guidance if necessary. This way, I really learn how the student thinks and comprehends information. All students need extra help sometimes. I happen to be a guy who loves to provide that help.
