A Little Bit About Me...

My experience as a teacher has been most in a foreign country teaching mathematics in several levels, since junior high School to senior high school. I also had taught Spanish in high levels. I got my teaching license in El Salvador in 1979 teaching in elementary schools and after I took several classes of Math in Jose Simeon Cañas University, which let me prepare to taught algebra from six to nine grades, finally I finish BA in Math from National University in El Salvador in 2000. My comments on tutoring Trigonometry : As a tutor in the college-prep after-school program Upward Bound,I helped students with Algebra I and II, Geometry, and Trigonometry for 7 years, and know where the basic pitfalls are.

I start by giving a diagnostic test to assess each student's proficiency in the basics of Arithmetic and Algebra: fractions, decimals, percentages and the interconversion between them,and the rules of working with signed numbers. This approach stems from the notion that without these basics, Math is an uphill climb for most students. I place more emphasis on full work than answers.
I taught college-level Plant Science for 14 years. I spent 7 years as a tutor of Math and Science at the college-prep after-school program Upward bound, helping students with homework and preparing them for the ACT and the SAT. I am currently employed as a Math tutor at a local technical college where I help students with Basic Math, Intro Algebra,Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Trig and Elementary Statistics.
