My comments on tutoring College Algebra : Algebra can be confusing, but it comes easily enough with the right guidance! If you need a patient tutor who will go through the concepts and problems with you step by step, then let me know and I will help you improve!

For tutoring, I prefer face-to-face lessons, because it makes it easier for me to gauge how well the student is understanding the material. I try to explain concepts in a variety of ways to find out how the student learns best, whether through repetition, example, metaphor, application... whatever works! I have tutored kids with all kinds of needs and a few with pretty short attention spans :) For piano lessons, I would use the Alfred library of teaching materials, as that is how I was taught and it works wonders on new learners! In addition to reading music, I would focus on performance techniques and theory as well.

For the purpose of effectiveness, and to be as organized as possible, I like to start each lesson with material review time. The amount of time spent reviewing depends entirely on two things: 1) the level of the students aptitude, and 2) the amount of material that has been and needs to be covered. If the student has an exam or quiz pending in the near future, the material on the test/quiz gets priority. However, since many subjects in both high school and college have as a requirement a cumulative mid term and/or final exam, it is always in the best interests of all that additional time be spent touching on previously learned topics.

My teaching style is a combination of techniques I found successful during my educational studies. First, I believe the teacher has to be passionate and have a true love for what he or she is doing; this is passion, or lack thereof, is evident when interacting with a student. Second, patience is of upmost importance. In my experience, nothing inhibits learning as much as a rushed or pressured feeling when one is trying to learn.
