I worked as a full-time instructor of physics, astronomy, and engineering/electronics last summer for Upward Bound, a program that provided additional classwork and guidance to selected high-schoolers who came from low-income families that never before sent a kid to college. I also have one and a half years of experience tutoring introductory physics to early college-level students. I have extensive experience teaching and tutoring high school and college students, but I am also willing to work with younger students. I write fantasy and science-fiction short stories and novels and have strong language skills, so I can proofread papers (in English and Spanish) and help at any point in the writing process. I have two different teaching styles depending on whether I am in a preschool setting or middle school type setting. I enjoy a very positive an inviting atmosphere where my students are comfortable while creating a community of learners. Science and technology do not have to be difficult or abstract. I know how to make Chemistry interesting and relevant to everyday life. If students need help with the math that is required for Chemistry, I know how to bring them up to speed. When students are willing to keep trying to learn, I will keep trying to help them. I have enjoyed teaching Chemistry, Computer Programming and Freshman General Science for the past 20 years in Missouri and Kansas. I like to use current events and computerized resources to help students learn. I love science, but more importantly I know how to help students understand concepts rather than memorize.
