Jonathan R. - Maysville, KY 41056 (13 mi) - Elementary Reading Tutor - $12.50/hr.
Teaching reading is another one of my favorites. It is critical that a child reads, and rereads. After getting a child through a page in a storybook, we go back and work on any words that I had identified as problematic for the child. I teach the child various decoding strategies, such as phonics, chunking, identifying smaller words, the silent E, etc. I then have the student reread that page. If there are still words that the student is having problems with, we work on them again, and then reread. With each rereading, I time the student and point out to him/her how much he or she has improved. Being able to clearly SEE progress makes such a difference in the child's overall attitude and motivation. I've got around 8 years of college and university work under my belt, and I am getting ready to finish a BA in Elementary Education from Western Governors University. I love teaching.

Jeff W. - Portsmouth, OH 45662 (37.3 mi) - Elementary Reading Tutor - $22.50/hr.
Student-centered, Co-intentional. I believe that the key to learning is the motivation to want to learn. Once that has been accomplished, just stand back and guide the student to what they want next. I have worked in schools in Kentucky and Ohio. I have been a tutor, intervention aide, long term substitute teacher, and regular classroom teacher. I communicate freely with my students, and am always ranked among the most well-liked and effective instructors by my students. My best skill is helping students find what is in it for them to learn and use the material. I currently teach (adjunct) at a career College where I teach English, history, strategies for success, and communications classes.

Nicole F. - Cincinnati, OH 45236 (40.9 mi) - Elementary Reading Tutor - $27.50/hr.
Hello! I earned my Bachelor of Arts in psychology (3.5 GPA) in 2012 and have been tutoring English; ESL; reading; writing; and more for 8 years. I began as a volunteer through my university's writing lab, per recommendation by a cherished professor. I have worked with children and adults from a variety of cultures (South Korean; Venezuelan; Mexican; Turkish), and I have enjoyed playing the role of "student" in my own regard. I love to learn about other traditions and practices. One of the most rewarding experiences for me as a tutor was when I worked with a South Korean family for 1 year. While teaching two school age boys, I was privileged to be introduced to a bevy of Asian foods; practices; and even the Korean language itself. This family became my own extended family, and vice versa. This was a very poignant, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me, and I gained a wealth of knowledge f

Katie L. - Covington, KY 41011 (42.1 mi) - Elementary Reading Tutor - $25.00/hr.
I consider myself a very patient tutor, which I think is essential to the process. That said, I usually offer the student a few options in which to learn the material. I then let them decide which option makes the most sense to them. I believe Education and learning is a very personal process, which is why it should be tailored to each individual differently.
*I am available to help with homeschooling students. Please contact me for more details! I first want to start out by saying that I have a passion for what I do. I have over seven years of experience as a tutor and mentor and it has been a very rewarding experience. I am currently a Secondary/Special Education Graduate student and am enjoying the process of learning more about the field. I received a BBA in Accounting and History in 2009, so I also have a background in Business. I will always be glad and willing to tutor in any
