As an Iowa State graduate, I was very driven to not only achieve a great education but to actually learn the material set forth by my professors. At Iowa State I started with as a sociology major but throughout my career I was able to find additional interests and ended my tenure at Iowa State with a degree in Sociology and Political Science, with minors in Criminal Justice and Philosophy. Throughout these studies I have learned that basic logic can get around many of the learning impediments that individuals have. By getting on the same page with your students I believe that you are better able to relay the information to them in a way that they better understand. I am firm, fair, and friendly. I adapt lessons to the student's learning style, bearing in mind what the student needs for success in the classroom. I make learning fun. In 2000 I volunteered in the local high school's journalism class because of my passion for writing. The following year I was offered a position as yearbook adviser, and I further developed my skills with high school students. Since 2004 I have been a private tutor, teaching all elementary subjects as well as most middle school and high school curriculum. In 2005 I began teaching annual writing workshops at Simpson College for 6th - 12th grade students. In 2006 I attended substitute teacher training, and I began substitute teaching in 2009. I also had the privilege of instructing college students in a Volunteer Income Tax site this year.

I have recently graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree in statistics. The coursework in this program has allowed me to gain an understanding of many areas of statistics and mathematics. In addition, I have learned grammatical skills through writing reports and essays in English classes. I have had experience tutoring young children in subjects such as math and reading, as well as college students in various math courses. I like helping students learn and seeing them succeed.
