Each student requires a different approach to teaching. With this in mind, I prefer to sit one on one and work from the bottom up to try to figure out exactly where some of the issues may be. Once you better understand what it is the student isn't following, you must find a new approach to explaining the topic and reviewing it. I also believe the student must research answers on his or her own. The ability to memorize something is helpful, but it is more important to know how to find the answer or work through an answer. Often times students just memorize answers without understanding the buildup to the answer.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked with younger children teaching simple arithmetic and with college students/recent grads teaching them auditing and accounting concepts. With younger children, I have used games, flash cards, and blocks to have them practice their math problems. I find this keeps a child energetic and enthusiastic. I am also very familiar with the "touch-point" system, an effective strategy in learning how to add numbers.
