Motivated to help struggling students find love of learning

I love to teach and coach and think it is important to understand that everyone learns and grasps concepts in different ways. I do not have a specific teaching style other than positive because each child requires their own approach.
I have over 15 semesters of college courses most in the sciences. I find math and science to come easy to me if I am taught it in the right way and I would love to share that with struggling students out there. I have had experience in big and small schools, accelerated programs as well as normal classrooms so I have been exposed to a variety of learning environments.

A Little Bit About Me...

Since my sophomore year of college, I have been tutoring students in mathematics, physics, and chemistry in both college and high school. I have also since been involved with biomechanical research at Des Moines University, where I currently work during the school year and summers, which involves application of several areas of science, teaching laboratory techniques, and giving presentations on completed research. I have also competed on Drake’s Mock Trial team, sharpening my oratory and explanatory abilities, and have coached and competed for Drake’s tennis club.
By far, the biggest issue I have found with students with difficulty learning mathematics or the sciences is that there is a lack of motivation to learn, primarily because they do not understand the implications of the knowledge in front of them. As a scientist, I have the unique opportunity to present science as a living discipline. It is my belief that my experience in designing experiments, interpreting results, writing papers and applying for grants can enrich the understanding and appreciation of science for a biology or chemistry student. It makes a great difference to be able to teach science as a process instead of a simple collection of facts. Also, my veterinary medicine education background allows me to present a unified view of the world, by being able to explain the connections between concepts as ecology, evolution, physiology, and cell and molecular biology.
