A Little Bit About Me...

I try to present a concept or fact in several different ways so that I can resonate with the students thinking style. I have been told that I am a very good communicator and educator and can make concepts that seem complicated look much simpler and more comprehendible. If you've ever looked at the Khan Academy website, were Sal Khan makes little You Tube videos on all sorts of math and science topics, you will see a very similar method to how I educate .

A Little Bit About Me...

During my time at the University of Missouri-Columbia, I earned two degrees: a BA in Philosophy and a BA in Theater. I also took many writing classes, focusing on different types of creative writing, from fiction to poetry to playwrighting. When I graduated in 2002, I spent several years in Barcelona, Spain working with college students. During that time, I tutored students in both English and Spanish, and several times taught introductory Spanish courses to students involved in summer exchange programs.
I really enjoy ideas. One of my favorite things is to see someone make a connection for the first time between two ideas or concepts. I enjoy teaching through dialogue and conversation. While I was attending college, I was a tutor for the following classes: Accounting, Finance, and Algebra. I am an excellent student and have a full knowledge of accounting and math that can be applied in the classroom as well as a "real world" experience. In addition to supervising and training other employees within my employers accounting department, I have also had the privilege of being in charge of staffing an intern who complimented me frequently on my competence and ability to instruct in a professional manner that was easily understood and easy to follow. I work well with children of all ages and am considerably patient, easygoing, although stern as well with my students. My teaching style consists of visual illustrations mixed with a lecture or teaching session. Through my experiences at USD I have determined that the amalgamation of these two styles produce more stimulating teachings as well as information retention being maximized as well.
