I have always had an interest in math, science, and social studies along with a desire to help people. Therefore I decided to pursue a degree in Elementary Education. I have 5 years of experience working within a classroom as a Para-educator. My last internship was within a middle school social studies classroom, I had classroom sizes of 31 students. After receiving my college education I taught my own visual art curriculum in Western Illinois for two years. Here I worked with Elementary students and High School Students. My second favorite subject is Math. I have had the chance to tutor and assist student in Nebraska with my Para position at Northwest. I have also been given a tutoring group, which meets three days of the school week. Here I have been able to use my skills in the arts and my skills in math to help students who are struggling. Repetition is what truly sticks information into student’s minds, despite its annoying tendencies. I graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. I spent a year as a Substitute Teacher in Lincoln, NE. I then took a year and a half break from teaching to recruit for a small college. I went back into teaching as a grade 7-12 mathematics teacher. I was responsible for the 7th grade through pre-calculus courses at Wheatland Public Schools in Madrid Nebraska. This school was then combined into Grant Public Schools. I am also a strong technical trainer in my current role and provide necessary computer and analytical training to all new associates at the current company I work for. I teach to the student. I find exactly what their strengths are and incorporate it in some way to learn something new. Education is a set of building blocks and can only be as strong as the foundation.

As a college graduate and a mentor at a behavioral health facility I have gained valuable knowledge and confidence in one on one guidance. I have a BA in psychology and a BFA in studio arts and I am currently pursuing a place as a PhD candidate in the educational psychology program at UNL. I am experienced in math, english, psychology, and studio art. Also, I volunteered for the Lincoln Initiative for Tutoring program where I tutored elementary students after school and served as a role model. My teaching style is about positive feedback and patience. With my experience in psychology I have found that a calm nurturing environment lends itself to bolstering understanding for children. Also, a calm environment allows a child the ability to think without excessive distraction. Everyone learns in their own personal way and as a mentor I would like to help foster that.
