A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a contracted translator for GE during outages for the last 4 years. Major work for outage is simultaneous translation for GE nuclear technicians to Taiwan Power Plant (English-Chinese). My major back in University is English so I also had four year experience teaching English as second language. With education in English, I know what mistakes Chinese are likely to make translating Chinese to English. I would like to share my learning experience with you and hope we both make progress in teaching and learning.

I love to teach and believe strongly in the empowerment of education. I get along well with children and I strive to make learning fun. I feel as though my favorite way to teach, as well as my most recent experiences, is one on one with the learner, or in a small group setting.

My job is to encourage students by providing a positive role model and love of learning. Students are asked to use higher order thinking skills; getting them to dig deeper and ask questions engages their minds and I see them become more excited about learning. First, I check for prior knowledge. Asking students what they already know about a subject helps me know where to begin. I have 10 years of professional experience involving customer service, Spanish translation, tutoring, and training. As an ex-patriate, I was afforded the opportunity to learn Spanish fluently and have witnessed first hand its importance in business and life today. My favorite part about teaching is the moment that something "clicks" within a child's mind.
