I believe in teaching by example. I know especially in chemistry, examples help see the proper technique and variables needed to solve the problem. I feel that if a student is memorizing an equation but does not understand the process of finding and filling in variables, this will not help them get to the correct answer. A student need to dissect the equation in order to understand what exactly a problem is looking for. It took me many year to understand this process, but once I did I found that I could solve almost any problem that was presented to me in the field of chemistry. I hope to pass this knowledge on to my students.

A Little Bit About Me...

While obtaining my chemistry degree at Butler, I also completed all requirements for a secondary education license with the exception of student teaching and worked as a math and science tutor with a private tutoring service in Indianapolis. I also was a "Mad Science" instructor, teaching after school programs to grades k-12 in science. Upon graduation, I worked as a medicinal chemist for 5 year and attended law school at night. I completed my law degree in 2006 and now currently work at Vanderbilt University negotiating research agreements. I recently taught test prep course for Sherwood Test Prep-but disliked the format of the classes. A Little Bit About Me...

I have student teaching experience in physical science at the eighth grade level as well as biology at the high school level. I also have prior tutoring experience at a sylvan learning center where I tutored students in basic math, science homework support and ACT prep in science. I'm currently substitute teaching and tutoring a family of three children all in the sciences.
I believe that all children have the potential to become successful, lifelong learners. I also believe that I have the kindness and patience that's required to work one-on-one with students and help explain difficult concepts in a way that they can understand. It is very important to listen to the students and ask them where they are having trouble, and help explain the concepts slowly and clearly.
