English and Writing Tutor

I am a senior at the University of Tennessee and am majoring in Architecture. Coming from a background of advanced English classes at Oak Ridge High school, writing and composition is my strong suit. I have tutored an architecture student who was taking a writing intensive essay course on "Theory of Architecture" and helped her sharply improve her weekly grades on papers. Also, during my freshman year in college, my summer reading essay was chosen as one of the top out of thousands of incoming freshmen. My comments on tutoring Drawing : I focus on realistic drawing from life.

I am a visual learner, which is necessary in the art field. I never fully understand a new method or technique without seeing it and trying it with my own hands first. When teaching, I verbally explain the process and visually explain it (with examples or demonstrations), then the student and I work on it together, then the student tries on their own, with me standing by to answer questions or correct mistakes.
As an art educator, I was required to master many different mediums. I have practiced drawing, painting, two- and three-dimentional design, Photoshop, printmaking, jewelry-making, and photography. My emphasis is pottery. I can handbuild and work on the potter's wheel. I create excellently-crafted functional pieces. Drawing is one of my top subjects! Majored in illustration from Savannah College of Art and Design, skilled in life drawing, plein aire and the mechanics of composition and the tools of the trade.

I prefer hands on, a back-and-forth style of learning where both I and the student have something to offer to the session. I like input from my students, and like including real world examples and application of the skills I'm teaching.
I've been involved in the arts since high school, and I graduated summa cum laude from one of the top arts colleges in the world, Savannah College of Art and Design. I earned a B.F.A in illustration, which I'm currently using to illustrate a series of graphic novels. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a graduate of Bryan College with a degree in Music Education, having taken many education classes and completed a semester of student teaching at the elementary and high school level in Rhea County schools. My prior experience in teaching comes from over 5 years of teaching piano lessons to beginning through advanced students from age 4-adult. While at Bryan, I was a tutor for music theory students as well as assisted and edited English and literature papers and essays.
I have a great love of teaching and guiding young people in their academic studies. My approach to teaching or tutoring is open and involves as much personal encouragement as I can. I believe it is essential for the student to have a desire to learn in order for retainable education and it is essential for the teacher/tutor to encourage this desire as much as possible through teaching practices and activities.
