I am, as of this past May, a high school graduate. I was co-president of the National Honors Society and a member of the Spanish National Honor Society at Rochester High School. I graduated third in my class, and I received awards for Physics, Vocal Music, Leadership, and Drama. I received A's in all of the subjects that I am willing to teach and I am comfortable in my knowledge of them. This fall, I will be attending Illinois State University as a Physics and Engineering major. I have never officially taught, but I have been told by my peers that they believe I would have some skill at it. My teaching style is one which engages the student actively in the learning process. I have used the "popcorn" technique in a classroom, where I call out "popcorn", then call on someone at random. This ensures that each student in the class is following, or else they lose their turn to read. If I'm working w/ a student w/ poor reading skills, I allow them to read, and help them w/ the difficult words, encouraging them to sound out the word. I also try to engage models, and kinestetics, in the learning process. One picture=1,000 words, and one model = 1,000 pictures. I also use these techniques in teaching mathematics. I am very passionate about teaching. I am a very hands-on type of teacher that really likes to get the student involved in their learning.
