A Little Bit About Me...

In teaching, I believe it to be very important to gain the student's interest within the subject matter. With an interest comes greater understanding and retention. Providing a structure that can be worked through systematically can be very helpful in the learning process. Not all students are the same, so one-on-one interaction can help provide a teaching/learning style conducive to the individual involved. I hope to provide an adaptive and effective teaching experience for students in need with patience and dedication.
During my time as a student studying Biological Sciences, I encountered varying levels of math and science ranging from statistics to calculus and basic biology to various types of advanced physiology. As Cal Poly SLO has one of the most competitive engineering programs on the west coast, I have a depth of knowledge in both math and sciences. After earning my B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, I lived in Germany, Ohio, and Central California while trying to figure out my place in this world. I settled for two years in Salinas, California where I taught pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry to junior high and high school students. I believe this level of math is the most important as applications to everyday life are abundant.
As the school I taught at was private, the students were very competitive. I found my lectures and class activities reached 90% of the students. The remaining 10% were the students I especially loved to instruct.
