Mathematics Tutor

Throughout my life, I have enjoyed doing mathematics. It has been my strongest subject since grade school. In middle school and high school I was consistently one of the top students in my mathematics courses. In college i took 3 semesters of Calculus (I, II, and III), 2 semesters of Probability and Statistics (I and II) and College Algebra along with some more advanced courses. My comments on tutoring Algebra II : I have taught Kindergarten, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, and 5th Grade. I am certified K-6th grade. I also taught advanced math in a GED/HiSet program. I currently teach ESOL/CIVICS for an Adult School.

My teaching philosophy starts out with essentialism which believes in a strong core curriculum and high academic standards. I believe it is important to have a strong foundation on which to build upon. After ensuring a strong foundation I tend to lean more towards progressivism. I believe students should be taught what is relevant today while becoming more independent learners, by utilizing problem solving skills and critical thinking. I do have a preferred teaching style, but I will accommodate the student’s preferences. My preferred teaching style is to guide students, not lecture or do their homework for them. Your ability to learn material will be greatly increased by exposure to critical decision making steps as you work problems. I will guide students to these steps as efficiently as possible and wait for a rigorous effort from the student. This will result in either a correct approach or an inappropriate or incorrect approach. After that point I then congratulate the student for a correct answer, or thank them for their effort and try to break down the decision making process so that they can learn from the experience and gain a real understanding of the problem.

I have earned my Bachelors of Business Administration in Management from Dalton State College. I obtained a national certification, while in college, to become a professional tutor.
