A Little Bit About Me...

As a Siena College graduate I developed a very hands on approach to active learning. Through classroom lecture and instruction I've completed the necessary coursework to complete my BS of biology. Due to my strong work ethic I've gained knowledge and skills in the physical sciences, as well as in other subject areas. During my college years I subbed as teacher at a public K-12 school. During that time I taught a variety of grade levels, and worked as a one-on-one aide.
I believe that in order to succeed in teaching and being an educator you must inspire those that you are teaching. A child who is excited to learn, will do much better. I feel a hands on approach is best, guiding the child to personal success.

I hold both a B.S. and a Ph.D. in chemistry and over the past 14 years I have mentored, tutored, and instructed at the college level in chemistry and biology. I currently am employed as an assistant professor of chemistry at a small private liberal arts college where I have taught chemistry full-time the past two years. I really enjoy tutoring. I have been told in the past by students I have tutored that I am able to bring the information to their level, helping them to more easily understand the subject at hand. I have assisted many students throughout my years as an undergraduate, graduate, and alumni to achieve thier goals in college. I was very determined to stay on the dean's list and get involved in many groups in college. I have also written many papers on various aspects of human biology.
I am flexible to include many teaching styles while working with students. I have found, however, that the best way I have learned is through experience/discovery. I prefer a hands on approach but I am patient with those that are not ready or do not prefer to learn that way. Learning and teaching is my passion. In high school it ws teachers with the same passion that made learning fun and encouraged me to achieve academic success. Most any subject can be made interesting if approached the right way. Mostly it is about patience and good respectful communication. I started off college at Mohawk Valley Community College and earned a Liberal Arts and Science degree. I feel that all college students should be well rounded and should take a wide variety of courses. I then enrolled at Utica College to finish my BS degree. Over those two years, I took 18 science courses and most of them were accompanied by labs. It was stressful and difficult but it was something I was determined to complete. I thought I wanted to go to medical school, but later decided against it. Also during my time at Utica College, I conducted medical research with Aspartame and Omeprazole on mice.
