I enjoy teaching and working with all children. I have been a Substitute teacher in Hampden County, MA and most recently worked as a Counselor for a group home in which the children needed support on a daily basis with their schoolwork. What I have gained from these experiences is that any child can succeed with patience and with the right resources. Striving to make a difference in a student's life is a goal of mine and I welcome the opportunity. I have earned a Bachelors Degree in History which has enabled me to gain understanding in many areas of sociology and geography. I really enjoy tutoring students one on one better than teaching in the classroom, because of the one on one contact, because I have found it helps take the pressure off the stuent to facilitate learning. I am easy going, energetic, very passionate (especially when teaching calculus and physics), and engaging. In most cases it takes only a few sessions and students are having fun. I believe that most students can understand mathematics with a proper explanation. For example, the order of operations is usually presented to students without explanation for its existence. This gives the false sense that it is an arbitrary rule. I enjoy sharing my understanding to students, but I also enjoy providing a role model for my students. I feel children are very self-aware and are very vulnerable to positive and negative feedback. Therefore, no matter how little progress is made, praise them.
