A Little Bit About Me...

I have not tutored publicly before, but have tutored friends children/ family members for standardized tests such as the high school history and english statewide tests. I have tutored 5+ people in college algebra (all earning A's) as well as helped high school students with algebra. I am probably best at writing papers and reading comprehension type tasks. Because I have little experience, I would be willing to take reduced pay for a couple of sessions to assess if you feel I am helping your child, and then we could set a more formal agreement. I can help almost any age student from 6th grade to the college level.
For math problems, I usually work problems and explain each step, and then have the student attempt to work a similiar one when they feel like they understand the problems. I try to be as helpful as possible while still focusing on the goal of total understanding for the ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I enjoy working with all people young and old. When teaching someone, for me the most important thing is to get them to grasp the actual technique and reason for why something is important and how it is used, not just a strict memorization. It takes two to make learning possible, a good teacher and a good student.
As an Chemical Engineering graduate and a current Masters of Business Administration student, I have been exposed to a variety of diverse materials. Chemical Engineering gave me a wide range of skills in the math and science fields. It also built an immense toolset to approach a wide variety of problems. Business on the other hand has introduced me to different types of applications of my skills. It has also furthered my skills in working with people to achieve common goals. I have helped fellow students off and on during the past couple years doing help sessions. ... read more

More About This Tutor...

From 2007 to 2010, I worked as a math tutor at Huntington Learning Center in Pasadena, CA. I spent a lot of my work there helping high school students get ready for the math portion of the SAT, but I also worked with students on their school studies (in calculus, college and high school algebra, and geometry). Most recently, I spent about five months working as a math tutor at Sylvan Learning Center in Jackson, MS. Most of the students I worked with adhered to the "Sylvan Curriculum" so that they could improve their basic math skills. However, during this time I also had a handful of homework support students. These students studied geometry, college trigonometry, and GRE and PRAXIS test prep.
Over the past few years, I have worked with students who have come from a wide range of age groups and mathematical skill levels. I believe this has helped me develop an ability to sen ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

In May of 2010, I successfully completed my fourth year of teaching. Each year has been different. The children of today learn in many different ways. There has been a change in learning styles over the course of time. Some children may learn through hands on activities and modeling, while others learn through lecture. Regardless of the learning style, I have learned that it is my job to make learning relevant and meaningful to students.
The role of the teacher is to be a facilitator. The teacher facilitates the students in making personal decisions as well as participates in discussions that affect society. The teacher also helps build a foundation in subject matter to help develop a lifelong appreciation and understanding of the world through different disciplines.
