My comments on tutoring XML: Much of Excel is written on top of XML and experience with editing XML is useful once the basics of macro composition have been mastered.
Collaborative style, very hands on with pre-built example workbooks for students to tinker and tweak. I try to boil things down as simply as possible to make every concept as understandable as possible. After I completed my degree, I started working in the government contracting industry as a number cruncher (Pricing Analyst) for proposals. Proposal work tends to be quite challenging and that is where I learned the most about Excel and how to do efficient reporting. I was also fortunate to work with several of the Washington, DC area's Excel experts and eventually became an expert myself. I have worked with large (>$10B a year in revenue) to small (<$10M a year in revenue) firms and continue work in the field supporting an $80M company as the defacto "Excel Guru" and Pricing expert.
