My job as an educator is to teach them how to learn it and make them want to learn it. I personally do not believe that negative reinforcement is beneficial. Positive responses to students are extremely valuable, even if they may occasionally give the wrong answer. This will give them the motivation to do well. My comments on tutoring Grammar : I began teaching grammar in Composition courses while working on my Master's in English at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville many years ago using Harbrace Handbook. Since then, I have taught grammar within various English and leadership courses at Vanderbilt, Belmont, NSCC, and Price Waterhouse, and USACE primarily using Diane Hackers' books. Since Microsoft Word is only about 33 percent accurate, students need to learn correct (rather than spoken or "trendy," i.e., using "so" to begin an answer) grammar

I have thirty years of experience teaching and tutoring writing for high school, college, and adult learners. Corporate clients have included: Price Waterhouse, Sara Lee, GE, DuPont, TVA, Square D, United Methodist Publishing House, Southwestern Company, Vanderbilt Medical Center, Genesco, and HCA. Government agencies have included: The US Department of the Army, The US Department of Agriculture, and the Office of Personnel Management.
