I graduated from my Master's program with a 4.09 GPA and was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. I have taught in the public school system for over 7 years at all grade levels from Kindergarten to Grade 12. I have taught all subject areas as well as Special Education, Resource, and AIS Reading and Math. I also spent over 11 years in the construction industry working on highways, bridges and airports as a Project Manager and Surveyor. Learning and teaching is my passion. In high school it ws teachers with the same passion that made learning fun and encouraged me to achieve academic success. Most any subject can be made interesting if approached the right way. Mostly it is about patience and good respectful communication. I like to combine both direct instruction and hands-on activities when teaching. I believe that allowing students to apply their learning to real-life situations helps them to both find meaning in their learning and attach the learning to a memorable experience. I encourage students to see the wonder and "mystery" (there really isn't any mystery) of Math, regardless of the level, in the real world. To that aid, I try to present real world problems at levels the student can understand. For lower level students, I investigate with them the development of the linear equations involved in setting up a relationship between two factors. I spent nine semester at FMCC in the TRiO Student Support Services program. I began as a part time tutor and after one semester the program director saw it prudent to keep me on. During my time with the program I helped to establish several tutoring programs, one at FM and another at Amsterdam High School for the Upward Bound Grant funded program. In my spare time I do private in home tutoring for students seeking to improve their grades and become adept at taking standardized tests.
