My comments on tutoring Spanish : I worked as a Spanish teacher at the Eden Valley Watkins High School for 7 years and built the program for the school. I work for a trading company and handle the exports to Mexico. I am a native speaker and grammar is a tool for me to teach. I also worked for the Meeker county court system as a translator.

I workd for the Eden Valley Watkins High School for more than 7 years. I build the Spanish program at the High School. I also worked as an ESL teacher for the elementary school at EV-W. I also had a couple of Community classes at Ridgewater College, MN and during the summer time as well for the EV-W children.
I like to use grammar and all the tools available, reading, listening skills, writting. I think grammar is very important because it helps the student (s) to reinforce ther English grammar. I believe once that you have grammar skills, any other language will be very easy to learn. I like to use as well the web to explore and I would be open to use the material the student (s) are already using at school or at work.

A Little Bit About Me...

I studied post secondary in high school and graduated in the top ten of my class. I was on the deans list every year of my college career. I was a teachers aid at the University of Minnesota for three years in the anatomy department. I was a the lead embalmer for the University and worked for the Anatomy bequest program. I was licensed in mortuary science in 2007 and have been working as a funeral director and Retail manager for the past three years.
I believe that the purpose of tutoring is to help students help themselves, or to assist or guide them to the point at which they become an independent learner. My teaching style is, for the most part, non-directive. I think it is important to try to have students answer their own questions. When this does not work, I do not just tell the student what goes where or why this doesn't work, I give reasons and have them tell me these same reasons the next time we come across something that doesn't work.
At SCSU, I work as a writing consultant at the Writing Center on campus. With students, I help to make them better writers by helping answer questions, presenting questions, working through the brainstorming and paper-writing process, and helping with formatting. As an undergraduate at the University of Mississippi I was a teaching assistant for a College Skills class and also a year long tutor at Oxford High School in pre-algebra. After graduating from the University of Mississippi I lived in Seoul, South Korea and taught students ages 5-11 English as a Second Language, including math and social studies. Upon returning to the United States I began working on my master's degree in TESL and I've also had the opportunity to teach 3 credit bearing college courses from 2009 to current.
