A Little Bit About Me...

- Five year tutoring experience. - Tutored all ages, from basic arithmetic to Algebra 2. - Taught several math classes, but majority of experience with one on one tutoring. - Taught a variety of students with numerous math needs, helping achieve better test scores, easiest and faster homework, quicker arithmetic calculation, and helping math to not be such a daunting subject.
Engaged style that is geared towards personalization to the student. Teaching method can range from following along in the book, or with working on problem areas (depending on needs). I enjoy not simply teaching how to do it, but the why and how it works.

Competent Math Tutor @UNC Asheville. Have your child excel.

I am employed as a Math Tutor at a company in Asheville. Before this, I lived in Raleigh where I worked for several distinguished companies as a Math Tutor. I have taught SAT Math prep at Cary Academy during the last two summers and at Roxboro Community School where I worked primarily as a Spanish Teacher.
I like to use examples and cater my lessons to what the student needs to work on (i.e. homework, test-prep). I also differentiate my style based on whether the student learns best through audio, visual, or kinesthetic means. I am a great listener and am able to identify where the student needs help and how to best bolster their academic ability and confidence.

My comments on tutoring Algebra : I consistently made mostly "A" averages in Algebra I, and scored well in this subject throughout K-12, as well as college.

I like to use the Socratic method, mainly by asking questions and challenging assumptions. In addition, I like to engage those I teach, challenging them to think about what they previously have not considered. I believe in building on successes, and offering constructive criticism, where appropriate.
I have mentored various people since 2000, in all types of subjects, including math, science, social sciences, English, writing, literature, and other related subjects. My academic record is very strong, and I believe empowering those I work with every single time. The only pre-requisites are that you have to be willing to learn, and learn how to learn.

35 years of Engineering Experience. Graduate Engineer with Math beyond Calculus lll; however, flunked my 9th grade algebra class. I didn't get it. I have taught both my children Algebra l in only five hours before taking the class, and they both got "A's". I'm not a teacher, but just a parent who didn't get Algebra l, but understand why I didn't get it, and now know how to teach kids how to simply get it. This method also helped my children get "A's" in advanced math classes, understanding how to learn math.
I will teach what algebra is really about in five hours, the basics. In engineering, a common phrase is KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). Give Algebra l a KISS, get all the basics in the book upfront, and do sample problems in each section of the book. You will then understand all the daily mumbo-jumbo of Algebra l, and just need to do more of the assigned practice problems. ... read more

In my experiences I have found that children learn in many different ways. Based on this I feel that individualized attention to each student makes them more successful in school, as well as, in many life experiences. Children learn by doing. With this in mind I find the best teaching style for each child. I enjoy using songs to enforce concepts in all subjects. I also enjoy having students discover and comprehend concepts on their own. I am far from a book and paper teacher, although, the concepts learned will relate to the material taught in class.
I have worked with students in all levels of elementary school through teaching as well as during my college year. Specifically I have been in classrooms of pre-k, kindergarten, third grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade. I find the enthusiasm and thinking of students in upper levels very intriguing. I graduated from Cl ... read more

I am a recent graduate with a Master of Science in Environmental Studies with a Conservation Biology concentration. This education has required that I become acquainted with a wide variety of subjects including mathematics and the natural sciences. This also entails having a high level of written and oral communication skills needed to bridge the gap between science, law, and policy. I have worked in the college setting as a community service coordinator and collaborated with several faculty to incorporate community service into their classroom curriculum in a wide variety of subjects.
My teaching style varies greatly depending on the needs of the student; however, I always try to meet the student first and then decide which approach will be the most effective. My philosophy of teaching revolves around the theory that a tutor or teacher's primary role is to support the student ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

In all my varied teaching situations, I strive to make the material exciting and relevant to the students. I am a lifelong learner too and my curiosity about the world encourages students. I have always gone above and beyond with preparation time to find interesting texts, thought provoking guest speakers, and games to diversify the classroom time. When possible and relevant, I take kids outside for hands-on experiences. As a parent, I have developed more confidence for guiding children to discover things for themselves. I encourage questions and also observe children to see how they might best learn so I can adapt my approach accordingly.
Most recently, I served as faculty for a study-abroad program in Tanzania for Earlham College. In addition to implementing all programmatic activities, I designed and taught a rigorous conservation course. Quality education has always been ... read more

I have a BS in Cybernetics Engineering. As an engineer, my knowledge of math and physics is high. As a student I solved so many operations involving calculus that I memorized the formulas and used them as fast as the multiplication tables. I am a native Spanish speaker. I was trained as a language teacher by Berlitz, one of the best language centers in the world. I have a certificate in Drama. I worked for a private elementary school as a drama teacher for 2 years.
I enjoy teaching very much. I am a very patient person and more than teaching the students I like helping them figure things out by themselves. I always try to create "real life" situations for them to use the knowledge acquired instead of making them solve abstract operations.
