A Little Bit About Me...

I have recently graduated from North Carolina State University with a BS in Biological Sciences with a minor in Genetics. During college, I taught/tutored 7th graders at a local middle school in the areas of math and science. I was responsible for full lessons as well as small group tutoring and science experiments. I was able to set-up lessons for the children to explain how math and science works together in order to provide data. Therefore, the students were able to understand how data transforms from quantitative data to qualitative data through graphs and pictures. Also, I was a nanny for three years for two boys which required extensive tutoring. Both children obtained and maintained their respective academic honors during my care.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching and helping other students understand difficult material. I love to use diagrams and other visual teaching tools. Often I relate biology to everyday life situations to help students understand better. Every student learns differently, but the material can be understood by every student.
As a graduate student, I have successfully tutored a number of undergraduate students. I received my BS in Biology and minor in Chemistry. Having struggled through four years of attempting to learn chemistry at the undergraduate level, listening to “inarticulate though erudite” lectures on various topics in chemistry in the dank, damp, hallowed halls of the University of Paisley, I was determined to redress the balance in favor of the student. My ideas on education have not changed much since those early days, though perhaps now I am better qualified to express these sentiments in line with stated educational theory. A Little Bit About Me...

I have taken several courses on the different styles of learning. I try to find out what style works best for my students and work from there. I know several ways to solve Chemistry problems and I try different ones if the first method does not work. I have learned to use many analogies when teaching Biology. I find that students remember more when they are able to compare a concept to something they are alreaday familiar with.
I attended Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan, one of the top 2 school in teaching in Michigan. In college, I tutored Biology and Chemistry.
