Continued learning equals continued growth.

My teaching style is to make sure my teaching is inclusive so that every child can actively participate in the learning experience. Differentiation is an important method I use to help those students who struggle in certain areas.
I have been teaching now for a total of four years. However, I have been working in the educational field for eight years. Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked as a library clerk. Also, I have experience as a tutor. I tutored for two years in an after-school program at a local church in my community. Currently, I am a special education teacher at Frederick Law Olmsted Academy North in Louisville, Kentucky. I mainly teach sixth grade language arts classes. My skills and knowledge of how to effectively educate students have continued to improve over the years. The summative evaluations I have received each year as a teacher have been positive. Literature is one of my top subjects! Masters Degree in English and American Literature from the University of California, San Diego. MA thesis concentrated on themes found in Victorian novels. While an undergrad, I studied at Oxford University in England where I focused on Medieval and Renaissance texts. Years later, I was able to do post graduate coursework in 17C literature and the Romantics at Harvard University Extentsion. Extremely well read in a broad range of literature but primarily focused on Western Literatures. Extensive hands-on classroom instuction with first year college students, would be suitable for junior and senior high school instruction as well.

I am very comfortable working with both indivduals and groups of students. I want to know what my students are thinking and feeling, so I very much prefer a seminar style of instuction. Depending on the subject - be it composition or literature - I break up the time we have into workshops, allowing us to focus on issues or topics of interest or greatest need to the students. If the coursework is grammar or composition, I also encourage a lot of hands-on writing and boardwork when possible. I feel students learn best when they try to express themselves and are then open to honest critical review. I believe that students should get opportunities to review and revise their work as well, presenting only their best efforts at the end.
I have a B.A. in English and History from Marquette University in Miwaukee, Wisconsin. I believe in studying those subjects which are of greatest interest ... read more

Teaching patience and fun learning!

I have a lot of experience teaching children in many areas of study and extra curricular activities such as; swimming, art, English, spelling and reading. I have this experience in a professional classroom setting and at home. I taught an ESL (English as a second language) course to many students who started out knowing no English at all, and I have also been an Au Pair who's main objective was to help the children understand English grammar. I volunteered in Big Brothers Big Sisters where I tutored my little Brother one on one in reading and spelling. Many years experience in art and art lessons. Finally, I also volunteered in my university's Girls in Science day, a day once a year devoted to helping girls become interested in math and science.

A Little Bit About Me...

While I am still a university student, I have spent many countless hours studying German. I have studied it in an American classroom and a German classroom. I lived in Germany for 15 months, studying and living the language. I really love the German language and culture, and I'm really interested in helping others to love it as much as I do! Hopefully, my passion for it will transmit onto others who are interested in Germany as well.

My comments on tutoring Literature : I have a B.A. in English with an emphasis in literature.

Patient. Encouraging. Funny. I believe learning should be a joy, not a chore.
With a degree in English and 20 years in journalism, I have a thorough understanding of the principles required to read and write at a high level. I can teach a student how to write clearly, concisely and, if he/she has the desire, even compellingly. I can also help a student better comprehend what he/she reads and, moreover, appreciate and enjoy it.

My comments on tutoring Literature : I'm very familiar and experienced with British Literature, not so much American Lit. I do know some American Literature authors.

I started tutoring in 2009 through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana. I tutor my "Little" for an hour once a week. I help with whatever subject they need. My specialty is Language Arts, but if you need help with basic math, I can do that too. I have observed many elementary, middle school, and high school classes. I know what works best, especially since I'm going to become a high school language arts teacher in a few years.
I'm patient. I'll try and make my lessons easy to understand. I know how frustrating language arts can be, but I also know how rewarding it can be as well. I can relate very easily to high school students, because I just graduated from high school 5 years ago.

A Little Bit About Me...

While I have made a living as a technical writer in the software industry for sixteen years, part of making a life has been through my creative writing. I have written eighteen screenplays, three adult fiction manuscripts, three nonfiction manuscripts, two YA manuscripts, and now I hope to have found my niche as a middle grade novelist. I am repped by Joy Tutela of the David Black Agency who is trying to sell my first MG as I finish working on my second.
Pick out what's good and encourage that. It is too easy to focus on the negative. As a writer who understands rejection very well, it has humbled me. Another set of eyes always helps during the editing process. Sometimes a writer just needs to be set on the correct path, and they can do much of the rest from there. Being a parent has also taught me patience, which is something any teacher needs. Also, reading helps you become a bet ... read more

I have been commended for my ability to teach students holistically. This means I take in consideration the student's background and prior knowledge, and then design a method of instruction to fit that particular student. This makes me a accomplished and preferred tutor

Worked on and received my Master's in Teaching From the University of Louisville. Continued my teaching and writing careers, and have a book in publication. Have fun while learning!

- I am patient with the student and make sure that he/she knows and understand that I am here to help and to provide opportunities to him/her to use the available resources at his/her disposal. Example: how to use the internet efficiently. It is a powerful tool if you know how to use it. - I let the student define and explain clearly what is it that he/she does not understand. This encourages the student to organize his/her thinking process and help me (the tutor) identify problem areas. -I try to keep explanations simple, logical, clear and to the point. -I encourage students to email or call me with any questions or concerns prior to sessions.
-Worked with students in small groups of 3 to 4 to help develop their basic reading and writing skills. -Helped individual students prepare for exams like the SAT, ACT, and basic test preparation strategies. -Filled out evaluation ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a first generation immigrant, I have sharply experienced just how important proper communication skills are. Language, spoken and written are one of the most important parts of building those skills for young people, for success in both carreer and social life. I strongly believe that my own experience with constant learning and improving my language abilities helps me in better understanding of the learning process of others. Multiple personality assesments as well as my self-evaluation state me as a leader type indiavidual, competitive, influential, however also supportive and attentive as well. As a non paid experience I have been the helping hand for my friends struggling with their paper, proof reading and restructuring their writting during both highschool and college. As a college freshman I held a tutoring position with Academic Success Center at the University of Indiana ... read more
