Love Teaching

I have been writing for my whole life, and have a love of the art that is description. Since Mich of humanity's understanding is based on metaphor, description and its subtleties is a key part of any writing process, be it creative or instructional.My favorite form of writing is creative, however I also enjoy writing essays and other pieces based on fact. No matter what form of writing you endeavor to do, getting your point across through description is paramount. I would say my teaching style is more relaxed. I believe this helps one see students weaknesses and strengths better. It also allows one to compare the overall effect of teaching for each student. When I see a student falling behind then thats when I take action and try top get them where they should be in that area.

A Little Bit About Me...

I worked for 11 years in Virginia as a paraprofessional in the school system, originally doing strictly homebase work with handicapped children, then moving into the schools. I worked with middle school children faced with a wide range of disabilities and disorders, including ADHD, Downs, emotional issues and hearing impairments. I have worked with many of my classmates through my college years, helping them to prepare research papers and presentations at the same time as I was working on mine. During high school, my teacher requested that I help others in my class and I realized how much I loved helping others understand how accounting works. Also in helping my children with their school work, I have learned that each child is different and learns in different ways. I would describe my style of teaching as finding out how a particular student learns best and work form that foundation. A Little Bit About Me...

Young children learn best through things that have meaning to them. For example, I once tutored a child that had difficulty learning his multiplication tables, but was an avid NASCAR fan. I taught him the sums of multiplication problems by using the numbers on the drivers cars. He learned that the sum of 6x4, and 4x6 was equal to Jeff Gordon's number, which was 24. We did that with every car in NASCAR and people were amazed at how quickly he learned his multiplication tables. Multiplication tables became a breeze to him. I have used similar principals teaching phonics, and reading to young children. I also, have a history of being patient and understanding with elementary aged children.
