Marine Biology is one of my top subjects!

My style of tutoring is creative flexibility. I assess the student's learning style and try to adapt to that, using different senses (kinetic, aural, oral) to trigger best responses. However, this is layered over a basic multi-part structure suited to the subject. I also like to set up a schedule of what our hour will be like, with some beginning exercises (usually recall from previous session). The rest of the hour would be structured with student input as much as possible. At the end, I like to introduce some free time to talk about the lesson and about any new ideas.
I have a masters degree in Enviornmental Biology and a BA in pre-med sciences. I also have an AA degree in Dietetics. My other hat is a long career in writing, editing, and publishing. So, I am a grammarian and have taught English composition. I have been a substitute teacher for more than eight years in elem ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a parent and I understand that educating our children is a priority. Although challenging, I particularly enjoy working with children, teaching them as well as learning from them. I believe that what makes me a good teacher is my ability to listen, understand a child's outlook on things and my constant focus on challenging traditional teaching styles. I am a believer in visualizing the everyday subject, and I always give memorable examples related to our learning material. Also, I understand that every child's capabilities are different and it is only a matter of adapting to their level of understanding and providing a constructive approach. I like to involve all students in classroom activities, delegate tasks and reward good results. I also share personal experiences from my academic and professional career. At the end of the day, knowing that I made a difference in someone's ... read more

I work with students from age 2 to 82, and with all origins, cultures, and orientations. I specialize in using mental triggers to help in effective understanding and information retrieval (e.g., moving cookies on a table to demo electrical charge). I also teach with analogies to real world scenarios, using sources from around the world, and throughout history. Some problems have more than one root course, and some have coupled interactions that are difficult to isolate. I will also point out where there is more than one solution to a given problem, where management often gets to choose, based on a tradeoff between budget and warranty.
I have taught classes/tutored/judged efforts in Math, Science, Controls, Robotics, Matlab/Simulink, Beginning Computing, Effective WWW Searches, Neural Networks/Artificial Intelligence, Alternative Energy, Writing Resumes, Spelling, Grammar, Effe ... read more
