My way of teaching can vary depending on the student because not all students learn the same. Some students can be completely clueless about a certain area or problem, while others may know a little more but get lost at a certain point. What I tend to do is to carefully go over the book instructions, chapter section, notes etc.. because I know that sometimes part the reason why they don't understand is because he/she did not read the instructions or did but still did not understand them. Afterwards I will let he/she start a problem and if he/she still has trouble, I will then explain very carefully and then I will ask if he/she understood; if not i will explain again if yes, then I will give him/her a different example very similar and won't let him see the notes to see if he really did in fact understood. There is not a best way to teach. Each child learns in a unique way for each subject. Some can learn easier if the lesson is put to music and they can learn a song or dance that embodies the knowledge. Others learn it if they can write it or color a picture of it. Involving all senses, smell and touch as well, can make lessons more concrete to the student. I have gained more patience and understanding with learners’ differences as I have aged and had more experience with the uniqueness of individuals. I encourage questions as a way to pinpoint where the student is confused which then allows me to go over that specific area of the lesson slowly and more clearly. I begin my tutoring session by determining the area of Spanish or English Grammar in which the student shows the most difficulty. I ask my student to present a copy of his or her last exam. I engage the student in Spanish conversation at the appropriate level, and I examine his or her reading and writing ability in the language. In contrast to what I have observed from many careless and indifferent teachers even at the college level, I am strict, but very patient about proper pronunciation, asking the student to repeat the text after me, until he or she pronounces each word correctly.
