I graduated from Oregon State University this year with double Honors BS degrees in Earth Science (with a Climatology focus) and Environmental Economics & Politics. I also have a Minor in Political Science. My Honors Thesis, which is in the final stages of submission, is on the testing of a new variable mixing efficiency variable for use in our current climate models. I am an inductee of Phi Beta Kappa, the most prestigious college Honors Society in the US. In high school, I almost exclusively took honors classes and AP classes. I can confidently teach any subject that is taught in grade school. I have experience with AP tests, the SAT, and the GRE. I spent two years abroad during high school in Astana, Kazakhstan and come from a Russian background, so I am a native Russian and English speaker. My teaching style depends upon the learning preferences of the student, as I know each student has their own way of learning. Moreover, I also provide additional supplemental information and practice problems. I believe in learning not only the concepts of a subject, but also their real world applications. Furthermore, I believe the most important part of tutoring is making learning fun and providing students with confidence in the subject being tutored.

One of the greatest joys of teaching is seeing each one of my students grow as an individual and academically.I have always wanted to be a teacher since I can remember. I wanted to give back to my students what was given to me. "A chance to to learn and grow". For me, it seemed only natural to obtain a career in the area of my first love "TEACHING". I teach because it's who I am and what I do. When I see my students getting excited about learning;I feel that same excitement as though it was me as a young child again. It's my chance to do something meaningful and fulfilling with my life. It reminds me that I have imparted knowledge into the lives of each one of my students. This is what God has intended for me to do. “TEACH”
As a teacher, one of the most important things I can do is create a community of learners, which helps me determine how to assess my students. Creating a c ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of Indiana University and a current law student at the Ave Maria School of Law, I was and still very much am driven by a desire to learn and share that knowledge with those around me. I earned a BA in Political Science and a Minor in International Studies with a concentration in Human Rights. These two degrees have helped me gain an understanding of how the world of politics works, and its global impact. Because of my major, I have acquired a great deal of experience in writing essays and preparing presentations. My vocabulary and grammatical skills have grown extensively during my time at Indiana and now at Ave Maria. I have tutored students, including my own sisters, in English, history, and social sciences.
My teaching style consists of finding that unique style that will suit each individual student. Growing up, I noticed that it was very hard for certain students ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I recently graduated from North Park University, summa cum laude. I have earned a BGS in Human Development which has enabled me to understand the cultural, social and psychological dynamics of human development. While at NPU, I served as a private humanities tutor and strived to help students achieve their academic goals. For the past year and half, I have volunteered my time at Gilda’s Club Chicago and have worked closely with men, women, and children who are diagnosed with cancer. I primarily served as a facilitator in the children’s school and coordinated play activities for children and adolescents. I am currently enrolled in a M.ED program for Special Education at UIC to further my education and work with children and adults in the community. Given my volunteer experience and the nature of my prior education, I believe that I will be well-suited to this institution.

One place I belong is teaching and working with children. Anyone that knows me and that has worked with me would probably say that. I don't teach right now due to a desire to develop a real estate career so that I can end up in the classroom. Having said that, I really enjoy teaching. I am patient as all students are different in their processings, experiences and personalities. I am energetic and funny as I find that is a great way to connect with children. I have worked with all types of people, from severe attention deficit, to behavioral disorders, to utmost dislikes for specific subjects, to unresponsive. I honestly feel that I found a good way to work with all of them. I am still in touch with my students of the past and think that reflects how I might have made an impact on their lives. I find teaching the most rewarding, with the knowlege that most efforts will go unnoti ... read more

I believe in mutual respect for intelligence and expect productive and active participation from the student in their pursuit. Depending on the student, I might engage them in an appropriate book about their topic, ask them to find a magazine/newspaper article, tell me a personal story to identify with what it is we are reading about. This would depend greatly on their assignment, writing/reading skills, and interest. I feel every high school student needs to feel their mentors are supportive and appreciate their efforts, so I work best when I feel I am a part of a larger team incorporating the student, their family and teacher.

More About This Tutor...

I have had a variety of teaching experiences since graduating from a small teacher’s college with strict requirements. I have taught geography, physical education, piano, keyboarding, and coached high school sports. Hard work and dedication led to success in my coaching career with a runner-up state title in girls’ basketball. I mention this because it shows I have a good rapport with students as I am able to motivate and set goals successfully. I also have taught all subjects in a one-room suburban school, grades 1-8. It experienced such success growing from 19 to 27 students, that we added a second teacher after the first semester. This all demonstrates the wide range of flexibility and experiences I bring to the table.
I draw on a variety of teaching experiences that contribute to my success with students. My most recent position was teaching all subjects to grades K-4 in ... read more
