English ESOL is one of my top subjects!

I have a PhD in Spanish and Portuguese from a well-known university in the U.S. I have about 20 years of experience teaching Spanish and Portuguese on the college level. This includes elementary and intermediate levels, conversation, composition, literature, culture, film and medical Spanish. I also enjoy tutoring younger students. I lived in Brazil and have traveled extensively all over Latin America, Spain and Portugal. I am a native speaker of English and would enjoy tutoring ESL again. I have taught GED and tutored in Math, English and Social Studies. I got very high scores on my math ACT.

I had an experience teaching ESOL for 8 years with ST.Louis Public Schools District, through my work with people from different countries and different languages,I learned about their cultures and at the same time they enjoyed learning the English language, so they can be able to express their ideas and thought. Besides English, I had a long experience teaching the Arabic language. 10 years ago and until now I'm working at Global village Center and Brunetti language center. I'm also working as an interpreter for International Language Center for almost 6 years. My long experience with those students I learned and I enjoyed been around people who are different than us and who are trying hard to get involved in the American society.

My comments on tutoring English ESOL : I have spent the past 11 years as a language teacher and am currently completing my practicum to earn certification from a well-respected ELL certification program at University of Missouri-Columbia

In the classroom, I use a combination of cooperative learning, comprehensible input, teaching through music, functional grammar, teaching reading skills in the target language and scaffolding instruction to meet the needs of all my students.
I have spent the past eleven years instructing students in the area of language--both English and Spanish. I have taught at the high school level almost exclusively, but I am flexible to work with any students levels k-12. I believe that all children want and try to do their best, but sometimes need an extra push. I think it is necessary to use the appropriate curriculum, but to find out what teaching method works best for each student as we all learn differently. It is also important for each child/student to have some flexibility in what they learn in order to express their individuality and own creativity.
I have been caring for children of all ages for the last 9 years, which includes tutoring and metoring. I am also in my second year as a substitute teacher, in which I teach grades pre-k through 12th grade.
