A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught Special education for approximately ten years in each of the following schools: PS 52{Brooklyn}, Greenport HS and Southold HS. This experience includes work with academic levels from First Grade through College Prep. Within the inclusion program I have also helped prepare students for most NY State Regents Exams.

I prefer a more Socratic approach, whereby I question a student on "why" they are doing something rather than just repeating what they've been told or working from rote memory. I help students learn how to question themselves and work through processes so that when I am not there, they can effectively lead themselves. I am patient and dedicated. As far as possible, I adapt my teaching style to my students' needs. When I was teaching beginner-level German to an adult opera singer, I focused on helping her develop her conversational skills and pronunciation, using English to explain difficult concepts. By contrast, when teaching a beginner-level 12-year-old, I used a total German language immersion approach and built on my student's love of creative writing by asking her to write her own endings to traditional German short stories.
