Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I've been tutoring friends and family for years! I love teaching sign language because it is a beautiful language that is easy for people to learn, especially children. Even babies can learn how to sign! I am studying to become an ASL interpreter, and have completed ASL levels 1, 2, and 3 with a GPA of 3.8. I communicate with Deaf people on a regular basis using sign language.

I like to teach through repetition and practice. The only way to learn something is by learning the concept and working with it over and over again until it is stuck in your mind. I often achieve this with flashcards and organizing by colors. Colors can help categorize different concepts by associating aspects of a certain concept with one color, and aspects of another concept with a different color.
I've been tutoring friends and family for years! I love tutoring because it is so rewarding to see my lessons help students achieve better grades. I am studying to become an ASL interpreter, and have completed ASL levels 1, 2, and 3 with a GPA of 3.8. I worked as a professional nanny for 6 years, so I have experience working with children, and I have been tutoring friends and family for about 4 years.

A Little Bit About Me...

During lessons, I am patient, calm, well-spoken, but challenging. I continually ask my students questions and make sure the focus stays on them and their learning rather than myself. I find that the discovery approach works well in my classes and students are always willing to participate in fun games and other activities that allow them to find the answer on their own. The best teacher is one that is always willing to learn and wants to help the individual become a well-rounded person, not just someone who can always give the correct answer. Paulo Freire, the late Brazilian Sociologist, was not only one of the greatest thinkers of the century, but also a humble educator. He believed that there should be no set boundaries between student and teacher because all people have something to contribute. He also believed that one's education should be rooted in the one's reality. Thus a "stu ... read more
