My teaching style is focused on student achievement. Many parents complain that their child does poorly on tests. This is often a result of inadequate teaching practices which fail to recognize individual learning differences in students. My goal in teaching is to individualize the learning process for each student, so that the student understands and retains knowledge and is able to explain what they learned. My teaching strategy can be summed up in two words: encouragement and enthusiasm. I believe that once I have given a student the tools to succeed, he or she can do so - with enough encouragement. My students at Indiana University have all noted on their course evaluations that my encouraging and positive attitude has helped them improve their reading and writing skills.
